The stone hut in the middle of the par 4 on Canyamel Golf's 9th hole adds to the difficulty of negotiating par.
Canyamel Golf Club
Canyamel (Capdepera), Majorca - Mallorca, Spain
Inaugurated in 1987 and designed
by Pepe Gancedo, the course is of average difficulty. Mixed vegetation
provides scenery around the course including giant hundred-year-old Chamaerops
palm trees, fig trees, almond trees, pines, wild olives, carob trees,
and vines which climb up from the gully which runs past the 10th, 11th
and 12th holes. Known for the quality of its greens, the course’s other main attributes are the very fast and undulating greens and fairways that are constantly maintained in excellent condition. It is also extremely accessible for all types of players. Canyamel is located on the north-east side of Mallorca
and is about 80 km from Palma.
Notable holes: Two maximum-difficulty holes (2 and 13) and curious features such as the par-4 ninth, with a rustic stone house in the middle that makes it hard to play its 320 metres in four shots; the fourth, from which you overlook the sea and can even glimpse the neighbouring island of Minorca; and the spectacular eighteenth, with a triple-tiered undulation ‘piano’-shaped green visible from the clubhouse terrace, resembling a set of stalls open to the mountain.
