Montecastillo Golf Course with the hotel and castle on the right
Montecastillo Golf
Jerez de la Frontera, (Cadiz)
Spain
Designed by Jack Nicklaus,
Montecastillo Golf was host to the European Tour's season-ending Volvo
Masters from 1997-2001. Opened in 1991, the course features undulating
terrain, raised teas, plateaued fairways, huge greens, large cloverleaf
bunkers and water, which comes into play on 5 holes. The fairways and
greens are kept in very good condition and the practice facilities are
excellent.
RECENT IMPROVEMENTS (2019-20):
There are new bunkers and rough areas; they have recovered the original lake design of holes 7 and 8, and 10 and 17 that Jack Nicklaus described as one of the most spectacular places on this course. A new practice area was built in 2019 in order to accommodate Pro groups. A total area of 6,000 sqm divided in a 2 platform green, 500 square metres bunker and a tee area of 70 metres long. The rest is a huge zone of mowed grass where you can try approach shots up to 70 metres.
