Ombria Golf
Loulé, Algarve, Portugal
Ombria Golf Course is an 18-hole course artfully woven into the picturesque hillsides north of Loulé, a region home to more golf courses than any other in Portugal. At this par 71, 5800 metres long course, accuracy, rather than distance, is the key to success, and it a true challenge for all skill levels. As well, all 18 holes have been inspired by, and integrated into, the stunning natural surroundings.
Reflecting the rich diversity of the protected natural habitat, the two 9-hole loops are set in a quite different terrain. The front nine play out at the foot of sweeping hillside banks. Golfers will find their first nine holes an easy walk and play experience, with challenges coming from the elaborate design, contoured greens and undulating fairways.
From the 10th tee, players are treated to a breath-taking panorama of a back 9 spread throughout an idyllic river valley. Playing along the twisting rivers and streams, golfers must decide when to cross — when to gamble and when to play safe. Reaching the final two par 4 holes, long-hitters facing the short 17th overlooked by the clubhouse and hotel, may well be tempted to drive the 300m, but the stream crossing before the green lies ominously in wait. The 18th dog-legs to the left around a splendid lake and the day's play ends on a large green.
